Reshaping Thighs: Transformative Effects of Liposuction

Patient Profile:

A 36-year-old woman presented with concerns regarding her thighs, commonly referred to as “kissing thighs,” where excess fat in the inner thigh area caused discomfort and friction during physical activities. She expressed discomfort due to chafing and excessive sweating, impacting her daily life and exercise routine. Despite minimal excess skin, the client sought a solution to improve thigh contour and alleviate discomfort.

Procedure:

After thorough consultation, a minimally invasive liposuction procedure under local anesthesia was recommended to address the excess fat in the inner thigh area. The goal was to sculpt and redefine the thigh contours while minimising downtime and discomfort. The client underwent the procedure with ease, experiencing minimal discomfort during and after the surgery.

Outcome:

Several weeks post-procedure, significant improvement in thigh contour and reduction in excess fat were observed. The client reported a notable reduction in friction and discomfort while walking and exercising, along with decreased sweating in the treated area. The recreation of the thigh gap enhanced the client’s confidence and comfort in everyday activities, reflecting the transformative impact of thigh liposuction on both physical and emotional well-being.

Enhancing Body Contours with VASER Liposuction in Manchester

Patient Profile:

A young woman sought out our expertise at the Manchester clinic, troubled by stubborn fat around her abdomen and waist, coupled with excess skin rolls on her back. These issues persisted despite her efforts with diet and exercise, leading her to explore surgical options to regain her body’s definition and contour.

Initial Consultation:

During her consultation, we discussed various techniques available for addressing her concerns. Given her goals and the specific characteristics of her body fat, we decided that VASER Liposuction would be the most effective approach. I explained the benefits of VASER technology, including its precision and efficiency in fat removal, and its superior outcomes in terms of downtime, recovery, and aesthetic results.

The VASER Liposuction Procedure:

VASER Liposuction uses ultrasound technology to selectively break down fat cells before removal, which is gentler on the body and allows for more precise sculpting. This technique is particularly beneficial for enhancing skin retraction, thereby better revealing the natural contours underneath. Additionally, VASER’s ability to minimise blood loss during the procedure is a crucial advantage, as it permits the removal of larger amounts of fat with reduced risk, enhancing safety and outcomes.

Results and Follow-Up:

The procedure was performed at our Manchester clinic, and the patient’s recovery was notably swift thanks to the minimal invasiveness of the VASER technique. A few months post-procedure, the results were remarkable. The definition of her tummy and waist was significantly improved, and the excess skin on her back was dramatically reduced. The retraction of the skin post-liposuction accentuated her curves, aligning perfectly with her aesthetic goals.

Conclusion:

This case highlights the effectiveness of VASER Liposuction as a sculpting tool in plastic surgery, particularly for patients struggling with stubborn fat areas and seeking defined, natural-looking contours with minimal downtime. The success of this procedure in our Manchester clinic reinforces the value of utilising advanced technologies in cosmetic surgery to achieve tailored, impactful results that significantly enhance patient satisfaction and confidence.

What to expect & FAQs.

Ok, so you now know what can be achieved with liposuction or fat reduction cosmetic surgery: But when would it be done? What will happen during the actual surgery itself? Will you be awake during surgery ? When will you see the results?Click on the tabs to the right to get the answers to these questions and more.

No – Liposuction should not be thought of as a weight-loss method or treatment. You are more likely to lose more weight, if you are overweight, with a careful diet and exercise plan than you are likely to with liposuction surgery. Other alternatives to help if you are overweight include gastric bypass surgery.

If you have too much body fat in specific areas on your body, but are otherwise a stable body weight, you then may be a candidate for liposuction surgery.

Liposuction is a very effective technique to get rid of stubborn fat, from areas of the body, that you have been unable to remove through diet or exercise. The following areas are common areas to be targeted with liposuction treatment.

  • Tummy / Abdomen
  • Hips
  • Thighs
  • Chin and neck
  • Upper arms
  • Buttocks
  • Calves and ankles
  • Chest and back

In addition Mr El Gawad offers liposuction in Manchester, Liverpool, Newton Le Willows and Bolton, in the treatment of male breast reduction (gynecomastia) or female breast reduction surgery.

Many people believe that this type of cosmetic surgery is usually performed on Women. Mr El Gawad reports that the number of men he books in for liposuction, from his clinics in Manchester, Liverpool and nearby is rising year on year. Therefore both men and women can have liposuction.

In many cases liposuction can help to give you flatter stomach. But it does depend on what is the cause of your problem. See also the next question – Tummy tuck versus Liposuction for more information.

Let’s assume your problem is caused by excess fat?

Liposuction removes stubborn fat therefore it can be fantastic for patients who want to have a flat stomach. But many people do not realise that there are two types of fat that can be problematic around the tummy area.

Subcutaneous Fat

This type of fat is right below the skin. You can determine how much of this type of fat you have by pinching the skin on your stomach between your thumb and fingers. The thickness of this is dependant on how much subcutaneous fat you have. If there is a wide fold of skin, you have a lot of fat under the skin. In this instance liposuction should help you achieve the flat stomach you are after.

Visceral Fat

The fat that surrounds your organs is called visceral fat. This type of fat is below your stomach muscles in the abdominal cavity.  If you have lots of visceral fat then unfortunately liposuction will not give you the result you are looking for and the only way to get the desired flat tummy is through traditional weight loss methods.

Sometimes diet and exercise just doesn’t get the results you are looking for; in regards to achieving a flat stomach. In many instances cosmetic surgery can help. But what type of procedure would you need to get the results you are looking for? It depends on what is causing the problem in the first place.

If you have stubborn pockets of fat, but with an otherwise good skin tone and flat abdominal wall, you will most likely be best suited to having liposuction. Patients who experience the best results are at a stable weight and do not have a history of a large weight loss or pregnancy.

If you have loose skin however or your abdominal wall has been stretched, liposuction alone is probably not your best treatment option. If you have liposuction in an area that has loose skin, you will more than likely experience even more droopiness to the skin. In this instance a tummy tuck would be better suited to remove the excess skin and tighten the abdominal wall.

It is common practice to have liposuction on the stomach at the same time of having a tummy tuck. This will address complaints of loose skin and a stretched abdominal wall as well as removing stubborn pockets of fat. Click here to learn more about the tummy tuck procedure.

Liposuction cannot get rid of that annoying 50 or so pounds you’ve put on over the last 10 years. It should not be treated as a weight loss procedure. The amount of fat that is removed during a typical liposuction session ranges from around 1 to 10 pounds. While larger amounts of fat can be removed during liposuction, it is associated with increased safety risks, contour irregularities and skin rippling.

Yes – The only treatment that appears to be effective in reducing the excess build-up of fatty tissue associated with this condition is a surgical procedure called tumescent liposuction.

Liposuction is usually done for cosmetic reasons therefore is not normally available on the NHS.

Mr El Gawad offers the following types of Liposuction at his clinics in Liverpool, Manchester, Bolton and Newton Le Willows.

Tumescent liposuction.

The most common type of liposuction is called tumescent liposuction.  Your surgeon will inject the following into the areas that are being treated:

  1. A sterile solution (a mixture of salt water) that will help with the fat removal procedure.
  2. An anesthetic to help numb any pain.
  3. A drug that causes your blood vessels to constrict.

This fluid concoction causes the affected area to swell and stiffen.

Your surgeon will make a small cut into your skin and then inserts a thin tube called a cannula. This thin tube is connected to a vacuum that sucks the fat and fluids out of your body.

Power-assisted liposuction (PAL).

Power assisted liposuction uses a cannula that moves in a very fast back-and-forth motion. This movement and vibration allows your surgeon to pull out any tough fat cells more easily.  This type of liposuction usually causes less pain and swelling. It also allows your surgeon to remove the unwanted fat with more precision. Your surgeon may recommend PAL if large volumes of fat need to be removed. Or alternatively if you’ve had liposuction done before.

VASER-assisted liposuction

Vaser liposuction is a modern liposuction procedure using ultrasound technology to break down fat cells in the body. This type of liposuction uses a device that may improve skin contouring and helps to reduce the chance of skin injuries.

If you decide to go ahead and have liposuction, with Mr El Gawad (Clinics in Liverpool, Manchester, Bolton or Newton Le Willows), expect to have one or more consultation before the operation takes place.  During these consultations, Mr El Gawad will discuss what will happen before, during and after the liposuction procedure. He will also prepare you for any pain you might experience.

Your body will be reassessed on the day of surgery. Photographs will be taken for your medical records. Mr El Gawad will mark the position of the intended surgical cuts on your body with a surgical pen before you go to theatre.

Other considerations may include:

  •  Smoking. If you smoke it is advised that you stop smoking before your surgery takes place.
  • It is advisable that you are as close to your ideal weight as possible before surgery takes place.
  • To reduce the chances of you suffering from thrombosis, it is advisable that you stop taking any contraceptive pills four to six weeks before your surgery takes place.  Make sure that you use an alternative method of contraception during this time.

Liposuction cosmetic surgery, performed by expert  Mr El Gawad in any of his clinics in Manchester, Liverpool, Newton Le Willows or Bolton,  is usually done under general anaesthesia. This means you will be totally asleep during the operation.

If you are having a general anaesthesia you will be asked to avoid food or anything to drink for several hours before the operation takes place. However, it’s extremely important to follow your anaesthetist’s advice that will be relevant to your unique case.

Sometimes Liposuction is done with a local anaesthetic. If this is used during your liposuction surgery, you will be awake during the procedure.

Your surgeon would mark the areas on your body with a surgical pen to indicate where the fat is to be removed.

Once in surgery the following will occur.

  • A solution containing anaesthetic and medication will be injected into the area to be treated. This is to reduce the overall blood loss and well as help with bruising and swelling.
  • The fat cells will be broken up. This could be done through the use of high-frequency vibrations, a high-pressure water jet or a weak laser pulse.
  • The surgeon will make a small cut (or more if the area to be treated is larger) and a suction tube will be inserted. This tube is attached to a vacuum machine.
  • The tube will be moved back and forth to loosen the fat and to suck it all out.
  • Any excess blood and fluid will be drained.
  • The surgeon will finally restitch the area back up and apply bandages.

Liposuction surgery usually takes two to three hours. You may be required to stay in hospital to check everything is ok for a day.

You will be offered pain relief to help with any discomfort you have after your liposuction surgery has taken place. You may also be required to take antibiotics to reduce any risk of infection.

After you have been discharged from hospital, You would leave wearing an elasticated support corset or compression bandages.  This is to help reduce any swelling and bruising. You will be required to wear this continuously for several weeks after the procedure has taken place.

You will not be able to drive after Liposuction therefore someone would need to drive you home.

It’s recommended that you have someone stay with you for the following 24 hours after leaving hospital.

General post op care

You will be able to remove the bandage or corset while you shower.

When can I drive after liposuction?

You can drive approximately 1 to 2 weeks after liposuction.

When can I exercise after liposuction?

You should be able to resume any contact sports or strenuous activities at approximately 4 to 6 weeks after liposuction? Light walking and less strenuous activities can be resumed much earlier.

When can I get back to work after liposuction?

This depends on the individual case – how big was the area that you had treated and how intensive is your job? Patients who have had smaller areas treated may be ok to return to work within a few days. Whereas if you had larger areas treated you may need to take around 10 days off.  Patients who have less intensive jobs will also beabe to return to work much quicker than those whose jobs are much more physically demanding.

The results of liposuction aren’t always visible until the swelling has gone down. It can take up to six months for the area that was treated to settle completely.
